149. How Should I Start My Episodes? | Podcasting Tips for Online Marketing

Welcome to Podcasting for Solopreneurs and FAQ Friday where I answer a podcasting question in five minutes or less. Today's question is should I start with a pre recorded intro or go straight into the episode? This question comes from Stefan in the uk, host of the upcoming show Believe in your Business Mindset Tips for Solopreneurs. Ooh, I love that SEO and I am definitely going to need to check that out. Thank you so much for being a listener Stefan. This is a timely question because I just changed up how I do this. In my main Tuesday episodes I used to always start with the pre recorded intro and there's nothing wrong with that. I did that for over 120 episodes and you absolutely can do it that way. This method requires a teeny tiny bit more editing because you have to assemble the parts together.

That's usually not a big lift, but it is just something to be aware of. While it's not pre recorded, I do say it in real time while recording. I still start these FAQ Friday episodes with a standard intro each time. It's short and sweet, just like the episode. However, I recently started to begin my main episodes with a few sentences of episode specific context before I go in to the podcast intro. And that's because I'm preparing to start a YouTube channel. And don't worry, I'll have a whole episode about that coming up. But in my preparations, I'm learning how important the first 15 seconds are of a YouTube video.

If I want to use the same content on the podcast and on the YouTube channel, then I'd have to revise the version for video and that means more work. I want to work smarter, not harder, so I don't want to have to create two different versions. Therefore, I've changed to opening my podcast episodes with episode specific context and then getting to the intro after a few sentences. That's what I am personally doing, but there is truly no right or wrong. Do whatever feels best for you and if you have a podcasting question, click the Send me your question link in the episode description and I'll answer it in an upcoming episode. Until next time, Happy podcasting.
