69. Should I Bother to Release an Episode on Christmas? | Podcasting Content Tips
FAQ Friday answering the question of "Should I Bother to Release an Episode on Christmas?"
This episode was produced by me, The Podcast Teacher! Contact me at Hello@ThePodcastTeacher.com.
Welcome to podcasting for solopreneurs, an FAQ Friday, where I answer a podcasting question in 5 minutes or less. Today's question is, should I bother to release an episode on Christmas? This question comes from Michele, the host of the jet setting with me podcast. Hey there, Michele. Michele works with me 1 on 1 for her podcast, and we were discussing her December content plan. When we got to the end of the month, she questioned whether or not people would actually listen to her podcast on Christmas, and therefore if she should even bother to release an episode. I thought this was a really great question and worth sharing with you here on the podcast. I am a big fan of consistency and not skipping episodes even around the holidays. You can hear more about my tips to keep your podcast running smoothly during the holiday season in episode 54 of this podcast.
Michele has a point though. Most people are probably not tuning into her podcast on Christmas day, but podcasts are on demand content. Meaning that a listener can tune in whenever it's a good time for them. So that could be on Christmas day. You never know. But more than likely, it will be sometime during the week afterward. Even if you're completely convinced that no one is going to tune in to your podcast at all during the last week of December, remember that podcast content is evergreen. It lives on forever.
So let's say that Michele does an episode on luxury travel to Hawaii, releases that on Christmas, but no one tunes in 3 months from now or a year from now, when someone searches the phrase luxury travel Hawaii, her episode will appear in the list of results. By the way, she's already done an episode on that. It's number 78 if you'd like to go check it out on the jet setting with me podcast. So in case that's not obvious, yes, you absolutely should still release an episode even on Christmas or another holiday. Remember that you're not just creating content for the day that it's released. You're creating content for years to come. If you have a podcasting question, click the send me your question link in the episode description, and I'll answer it in an upcoming episode. Until next time.
Happy podcasting.
